Veteran's Day Celebration

AHS JROTC honored local veterans in a ceremony on the Clark County Courthouse grounds. JROTC members participated in the ceremony along with JROTC Instructor Colonel Philip Foster. Thank you to all the men and women who have bravely served and sacrificed for the freedom of our nation.

Daughter's of the American Revolution Scholarship Recipient Named

Senior Bre Currey was awarded the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award at a recent ceremony. A student is chosen from local school districts and recognized by our Local DAR - Arkadelphia Chapter-ASDAR. Bre was recommended by AHS Students and Staff. The award is given to a student who demonstrates the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.

APSD School Board Luncheon

The Arkadelphia School Board and District Administrators had lunch at Arkadelphia High School where they had good discussions about what makes a good leader with AHS Students. Everyone present enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving meal from Chartwells through the AHS Cafeteria. They also had a special pie delivery from FCCLA. It was great to have the school board on campus!

Backpack Program

Siplast of Arkadelphia delivered 900 pounds of food that was collected during their recent food drive for our school food backpack program. We are so appreciative of this donation that will meet a need for many of our students and their families!

National Honor Society Induction Ceremony

AHS hosted a National Honor Society ceremony on Thursday, November 16th that inducted 69 juniors and seniors for this year. This organization focuses on character, scholarship, leadership, and service. In order to participate in the induction, students must have met the GPA requirement and completed the application process.

Teacher Spotlight: Robin Jones

Students in Family and Consumer Sciences have been learning stitch patterns. Their assessment on Friday was to use their sewing skills to repair a garment. Mrs. Jones is teaching students great skills for the real world!

Mrs. Robin Jones’ Advanced Childcare Management students planned their first lesson this semester and taught it at their childcare placement facility. The student-teachers did a great job and the children got to be very creative during the lesson. AHS Students are getting some great hands-on workplace experience!

AHS FCCLA made pies to fill their fundraiser orders. They sold Pumpkin, Apple, Sweet Potato and Lemon Meringue Pies.

Counselor's Corner - Senior Grad Plans

Jason Jones and Shalonda Johnson have been meeting individually with members of the AHS Class of 2024 to discuss their college and career plans after graduation. Students received important information about the Arkadelphia Promise, ACT, completing the FAFSA, and other topics to prepare for life after high school. We hope parents will follow up with their seniors about this discussion.

Mrs. Ashley Wesley along with her collection of student "elves" began spreading Christmas Cheer with Educators Rising's annual showering of AHS staff with gifts and prizes.

RTI - It's in the DNA!

Last week, Jill Hardin's Biology students were studying DNA. On Thursday, they extracted DNA from strawberries. Very neat science lab!

Student Council sponsored a Door Decorating Contest for teachers and students.

Mrs. Hornsby's students won with their "Home Alone" spin on the famous painting "The Scream". Her students were awarded a pizza party!
