AHS Teachers have been going above and beyond this month to provide engaging learning opportunities to students.
Mrs. Magen Atkinson's students were challenged during class to see how many students they could fit through a single piece of paper. Students used critical thinking and problem-solving skills to conquer the challenge. One class was able to fit 20 people through the piece of paper!
Coach DeQuaun Talley's students were engaged in activities that reflect how they might balance anxieties that arise in life and embrace the unkown. Coach Talley is new to AHS and is teaching Health. We are excited to see what learning opportunities Coach Talley brings to our students this year!
Mr. Logan Way's Biology students have already explored the fascinating properties of water, including its cohesion and adhesion, by testing how many drops of water a penny could hold. They didn’t stop there—they also experimented with adding oil and soap to see how these changes affected the behavior of the water drops on the penny. It was an engaging way to discover how different substances influenced water's properties.
Mrs. Greenwich’s Algebra I classes wrap up a busy week with Friday Fun. Some of her classes created wacky mad libs as they put their skills of evaluating expressions and combining like terms to use!
Arkadelphia Agriculture Education & FFA has been working hard to prepare a float for the Clark County Fair Parade
FFA members worked hard to refinish, repair, and restore picnic tables for the Clark County Fairgrounds. This service project in connection with the fairgrounds gave FFA members the opportunity to learn new skills and help the community.
Scarlett Hasley worked hard to make this incredible quilt that she submitted to the Clark County Fair. Scarlett took home the purple ribbon on Wednesday 9/11/24 for "Best in Show". Way to go Scarlett!
AHS has a number of students with entries in competitions at the CC Fair. We encourage everyone to check out their hard work and accomplishments.

Can a teacher really make subject/verb identification engaging?
ABSOLUTELY - If that teacher is as dedicated and engaging as AHS's own Mr. Grant Reimers. Reimers went through a series of steps to support students struggling with not being able to confidently and consistently identify subject/verb of sentences. He retaught in a fun and low stress environment that was engaging and enjoyable for students and then made sure to take the time and practice until students got it right.
Last week English, Science, Social Studies and CTE started their weekly PLC team meetings. Thank you, teachers, for committing to the work of PLC’s. We firmly believe the work you do each week in these meetings will ultimately impact the learning of our students, moving them forward in their academic endeavors.
In the picture , the Social Studies team works to agree on their vertically aligned essential standards. They have chosen to focus on cross-cutting standards that students need to master for all SS classes.
