This past nine weeks, I organized a friendly competition among all my class periods aimed at completing the most levels on LEXIA. The winning class earned a hydration station in my classroom during lunch, featuring a variety of flavored waters made with zero-sugar packets. I'm excited to share that my 7th period class emerged victorious, completing a total of 47 levels! Below, you'll find some pictures from the event. |

Student Council Sock Delivery |
Goza Student Council spread some warmth this December!
Throughout the month, our Student Council collected brand-new socks for a holiday Sock Drive, then wrapped them and delivered the donations to The Nightingale at Arkadelphia. This is the 3rd year Goza has been able to bless our community in this way, and we are so proud of our students for their generosity and servant hearts.
Special thanks to our Student Council sponsors, Mr. Ankton and Ms. Middleton, for leading and supporting this tradition of giving!

Our 7th graders hit the road for an unforgettable field trip this past Friday!
Students visited both the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum and the Douglas MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, where they learned a ton about our nation’s history and Arkansas’s role in it — and had a great time doing it!
Our Goza teachers enjoyed the experience just as much as the students and were proud of how well they represented our school. Huge thanks to Mr. Resnick, Mr. Ankton, Ms. Whittle, Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. Ivy, and Ms. Thorne for attending and keeping our kids safe, engaged, and excited about learning!

History got a little sticky this week in Mr. Ankton’s 7th-grade Social Studies class at Goza!
While teaching about the American Revolution, students learned about some of the taxes the colonists had to endure — including the Sugar Act, which taxed molasses. It turned out many students had never even had molasses and didn’t really know what it was.
To bring history to life, they sampled blackstrap molasses in class, using a jar purchased locally from the American Made store in Caddo Valley. From the looks on most of their faces, they were not fans — but Ms. Rusher took a spoonful and said it reminded her of times at her grandma’s, which made the moment even sweeter. They definitely won’t forget what molasses is (or the Sugar Act) anytime soon!

Our big semester break has almost arrived! I know time off from school/work can be a super busy time, but I hope you all have time to “catch up” on some things we tend to ignore in the hustle and bustle of the semester.
Our students have been working so hard, but this break from school is an excellent time to clean out backpacks and wash hoodies. It’s amazing the odors that can attach themselves to these items throughout the first semester. We would love to start the new semester with fresh-smelling belongings!
One of my favorite days of the year is when a local university class surprises a few
Goza students with new bicycles. The look on the faces of the kids when they realize they get to take a bike home with them touches my heart each year. I want to thank all of the parents and participating students, our principal Mrs. Hunter, and Assistant Principal Gibson for their efforts in helping to transport the students and chaperoning at The Tiger Den.
And a huge special thank you to Mr. Cletis Knox, Goza’s very own Mr. Get ‘Er Done, for delivering the bicycles across Arkadelphia.

If your goals don't scare you, they aren't big enough. - Ellen Johnson Sirleaf |
This summary outlines achievement goals for Goza Middle School, where students aim to meet growth targets based on prior assessments. High goal achievement improves the school's performance score, visible on report cards. All students must put in 100% effort on the state test; neglecting it harms our score. Every student can reach their goals with parental support. Practice tests are available at https://atlasportal.org/families.html via the ATLAS portal. |

High Impact Tutoring for Math
Goza’s performance on the 2025 ATLAS Summative Assessment for Mathematics was 31%. Goza has qualified to provide High Impact Tutoring for 88 students (22 per grade level). The goal is to increase the number of students who are proficient in math. Goza stands to gain points that will improve its school performance score, now that the state acknowledges growth in student scores.
Edmentum will provide online tutoring. Students will engage with certified educators online. We are in the final stages of planning and are excited about this opportunity to provide our students the help they need to succeed.
Curriculum Resources for Parents
Parents, we have heard your requests. This table includes direct links to student resources, which are also accessible through Clever. It also contains links to ECHO pages for students and parents, as well as a sign-up link for parents without an account.
Lexia is our ELA intervention program where students do activities in Word Study, Grammar, and Comprehension. Khan Academy offers the entire math curriculum online, allowing students to complete Illustrative Mathematics tutorials. Prodigy is an educational game like Tetris, where students compete in ELA and Math by answering questions. The Wonder of Science and PhET are excellent tools for enhancing science learning through online simulations and phenomena that affect our daily lives. Twenty minutes a day in these applications goes a long way!
