Dissection Day in 6th Grade Science

The long awaited D-day arrived and was a wonderful learning experience for the 6th grade science students in Mrs. Smith’s class.
The essential standards 6-LS1-3 require students to use arguments supported by evidence for how the body is a system of interacting subsystems.
The dissection of sheep plucks helped the students obtain a better understand of how the circulatory and respiratory system work together within an organism. By exploring the structure of organs, each child was able to communicate the function and role of each part more precisely.

We would like to give a special shout out of thanks to Ouachita Baptist University professor Joshua Kwekel and his biology students for helping facilitate and assist with each dissection.

We would also like to thank Thomas T.’s mom Katie Tennyson for taking time to assist as well.

It is a joy and pleasure to have community members join us in educating the youth of Arkadelphia Schools. It’s the very thing that may spark interest in a career of medicine and science.

HSU Parent's Night Out

Henderson State Spirit Squads are hosting a Parent's Night Out. Children ages 4-14 are welcome to be dropped off while parents enjoy some time away!

Counselor's Corner

What a busy beautiful time of year for our Goza students and staff! With the first semester of the year quickly coming to an end, we can all be feeling some anxiety: students with making sure all of their work is turned in, and teachers making sure all of the work has been graded.

Anxiety can be made worse if students are drinking caffeine or sugary drinks. Water is always the best go-to drink to avoid dehydration. Of course Gator-Ade or other sports drink can be useful during a game, but it’s not the best choice to drink all day every day, and energy drinks should be avoided by kids.

Another way to combat the effects of anxiety include remembering to breathe – big deep breaths and exhale all the way and then take another big deep breath. Try to clear anxious thoughts out of your head and just enjoy the peace of the moment.

Stay on top of grade concerns throughout the school year by checking your parent account in ECHO.

Waiting until the last day before grades have to be submitted is nerve-wracking for students and staff who will be eager to get their holiday break started just like the students.

Finally, find things to enjoy together with students during the break. Whether it’s taking a walk around the block while you talk about what is for dinner, or a family game night, movie night, or a holiday get-away, take time to enjoy the people you love.

High Impact Tutoring for Math

Goza’s performance on the 2025 ATLAS Summative Assessment for Mathematics was 31%. Goza has qualified to provide High Impact Tutoring for 88 students (22 per grade level). The goal is to increase the number of students who are proficient in math. Goza stands to gain points that will improve its school performance score, now that the state acknowledges growth in student scores.

Edmentum will provide online tutoring. Students will engage with certified educators online. We are in the final stages of planning and are excited about this opportunity to provide our students the help they need to succeed.

Curriculum Resources for Parents

Parents, we have heard your requests. This table includes direct links to student resources, which are also accessible through Clever. It also contains links to ECHO pages for students and parents, as well as a sign-up link for parents without an account.

Lexia is our ELA intervention program where students do activities in Word Study, Grammar, and Comprehension. Khan Academy offers the entire math curriculum online, allowing students to complete Illustrative Mathematics tutorials. Prodigy is an educational game like Tetris, where students compete in ELA and Math by answering questions. The Wonder of Science and PhET are excellent tools for enhancing science learning through online simulations and phenomena that affect our daily lives. Twenty minutes a day in these applications goes a long way!
