Start the Day Strong: Encourage Your Student to Eat School Breakfast
Dear Parents and Guardians,
A healthy start to the day can make a big difference in a student’s success at school. Our school is proud to offer free breakfast every morning to all middle school students, and we encourage every child to take advantage of this opportunity. I can't even count how many students come to me asking for snacks because they feel lightheaded or dizzy, especially after PE. Unfortunately I don't always have snacks available for them.
Research consistently shows that students who eat breakfast are more focused, have better energy, and perform better academically throughout the day. Breakfast helps fuel the brain, improves concentration, and supports memory—skills that are especially important during morning classes, quizzes, and learning activities.
Middle school students are growing quickly and have busy schedules. Eating breakfast helps provide the nutrients their bodies and minds need to stay active, alert, and ready to learn. Students who eat a balanced breakfast are also more likely to maintain steady energy levels and avoid mid-morning fatigue. With the addition of to-go breakfast sacks this year, students can easily grab a bag to eat a little later if they don't want to eat before working out in the morning.
Our school breakfast program is designed to be quick, nutritious, and convenient. Students can choose from a variety of healthy options when they eat in the cafeteria such as whole grains, fruit, milk, and other balanced items that meet school nutrition standards. Best of all, the meal is completely free for all students, so every child can start the day with the nourishment they need. With ATLAS testing just around the corner in April, please get them in the habit of eating in the morning before we begin testing.
We encourage you to talk with your student about the importance of eating breakfast and remind them that a healthy meal is waiting for them at school each morning. Taking just a few minutes to eat breakfast can help set the tone for a productive and positive school day.
Thank you for your continued support in helping our students stay healthy, energized, and ready to learn.
