STEM Hand- 6th Grade Explorations in Biology |
How fascinating it is to study how the human body works! Take your hands for instance, we use them all the time, but have you ever taken a moment to appreciate what an incredible marvel they are?
Mrs. Smith's 6th grade science students explored this phenomenon by constructing hands that articulate and move and include bones and tendons. Such a fun STEM activity!

Tobacco and Vaping Prevention Presentations- 6th Grade |
Mrs. Smith's science classes had a very special guest speaker recently, Arkadelphia's very own Madison Morris! She is a Community Health Promotion Specialist (CHPS) with the Arkansas Department of Health. Her goal is to assist schools in improving student health through engaging, age-appropriate programming presentations for grades k-12.
Ms. Morris offers a variety of health topics, including Tobacco/Vaping Prevention & Cessation which is what she recently presented to the 6th grade. The presentation cleared up many misconceptions that our youth have about vaping, and brought a greater awareness to the harmful effects it can have on your health.
One of the greatest concerns across all classes was, "If the products of tobacco and vaping are bad for you, then why does the government continue to allow such products to be sold?" A viable question. It's important to recognize that educating our youth early on will help them all make better decisions later in life. Take time out now, and have conversations with your children.

Sometimes students need a place to talk about whatever is on his/her mind without worrying about being judged or disciplined. In order to give Goza students a place to share whatever they are thinking about, they can sign up for my daily Lunch Bunch time.
Five students per grade can sign up to come to my office most days, although a student can only sign up for one day per week.
Each grade level comes during their own lunch period. We may watch a video about making good choices, taking responsibility for your own actions, or the “true” story of Thanksgiving in America. We may talk briefly about the video, or we jump right into sharing something else. We talk about their dreams and goals and what they are learning, or anything else they are thinking about. It’s all about trying to get to know the students and making sure they know they are welcome in the counselor’s office. Some days they make me laugh. Other days I want to cry after hearing their stories.
As we approach Thanksgiving break, please know I am so grateful to have your students at Goza. We have an incredible group of kids who are learning and growing and maturing every single day. I hope they all have a great break and come back to school rested and ready to learn. The last few weeks of the semester will fly by!

High Impact Tutoring for Math
Goza’s performance on the 2025 ATLAS Summative Assessment for Mathematics was 31%. Goza has qualified to provide High Impact Tutoring for 88 students (22 per grade level). The goal is to increase the number of students who are proficient in math. Goza stands to gain points that will improve its school performance score, now that the state acknowledges growth in student scores.
Edmentum will provide online tutoring. Students will engage with certified educators online. We are in the final stages of planning and are excited about this opportunity to provide our students the help they need to succeed.
Curriculum Resources for Parents
Parents, we have heard your requests. This table includes direct links to student resources, which are also accessible through Clever. It also contains links to ECHO pages for students and parents, as well as a sign-up link for parents without an account.
Lexia is our ELA intervention program where students do activities in Word Study, Grammar, and Comprehension. Khan Academy offers the entire math curriculum online, allowing students to complete Illustrative Mathematics tutorials. Prodigy is an educational game like Tetris, where students compete in ELA and Math by answering questions. The Wonder of Science and PhET are excellent tools for enhancing science learning through online simulations and phenomena that affect our daily lives. Twenty minutes a day in these applications goes a long way!
