8th Graders learn about history with hands-on tools

Students in Mrs. Armstrong’s 8th-grade history classes created their own social contracts for Capturing Kids Hearts, mirroring the process of our Founding Fathers, and signed them using a quill and ink. This hands-on activity deepened their understanding of early American governance and the significance of formal agreements in shaping society.

Students were also treated to a traveling loan box featuring the Mexican-American War. This traveling loan box provided a hands-on exploration of the Mexican-American War, including replica uniforms, canteens, brochures, and books. These items enhanced students' understanding of the era through interactive and engaging resources.

6th Graders get a visit from a therapy dog

Ranger

Goza Middle School Media Specialist Kathy King invited a special visitor to the library today. Ranger, a Portuguese Water Dog, is a certified therapy dog through Pet Partners.

Students got to know Ranger and even read The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds to him. It was a wonderful experience for all. Ranger and his owner Kathy Danley live in Hot Springs. We are so glad they came today and we expect more visits!

Mrs. Brandi Cotton took 10 4th and 5th-grade GT students to the DeGray Lake Cleanup Saturday, September 21. They rode a barge to different islands around the lake to pick up trash along the shoreline. Aren't these kids fantastic to spend their Saturday making sure our beautiful lake is once again clean?!

Students learn history through Traveling Exhibit

AR

Mrs. Armstrong, 8th-grade social studies teacher at Goza, recently facilitated an enriching educational experience for her students by arranging a visit to a Traveling Exhibit from the Arkansas State Archives. Accompanied by Mr. Ankton's 7th-grade social studies classes, the students explored the exhibit, which meticulously chronicled Arkansas's history from its days as the "Arkansaw" Territory through its transition to statehood. This valuable resource provided a deep dive into our state's historical evolution, offering students a unique opportunity to connect with Arkansas's rich heritage.

PFCU supporting children with Acorn Project

Patterson Federal Credit Union announced it has started a charitable foundation,

The Acorn Project. The Acorn Project will provide food and other necessities to

children throughout Clark County and surrounding communities.

Patterson has a long history of working closely with school districts to support faculty,

staff, and students.

“The very first sponsorship we ever did was for a community

event to provide school supplies for students in need. Supporting the school districts

and all they do for our local children is a top priority for Patterson,” said Shawn

Cowart, Patterson’s President/CEO. “The Acorn Project will provide funding to feed

children in need over weekends and breaks from school. The backpack program, as it

is often called, has been our main philanthropy for nearly a decade. The Acorn Project

will provide a sustainable way to maintain that project. In addition to the backpack

program, we will seek new opportunities to support our local children.”

The Acorn Project will allow community partners to help provide our local children

with the food and necessities, they need to thrive. To get involved, businesses and

individuals can choose to make tax-deductible donations to the foundation. All money

donated to the foundation will be issued as grants to purchase food for the students in

need. Patterson will also set up packing events to organize the food. Businesses and

community groups are welcome to participate in the Acorn Project by helping with

those events.

If you are interested in donating, hosting a packing night, or learning

more, please contact Nicole McGough at Patterson Credit Union.
