Ms. Whittle's science classes work to build food chain

Students in Ms. Ashley Whittle’s 5th-grade science classes work in groups to build a food chain based on different ecosystems. They are researching different organisms to be able to label them with their roles and classifications, as well as multiple facts. At the end of this project, they will present them to their classmates to teach them about the ecosystem they researched.

They are focusing on improving their teamwork skills by working and researching together.

While students are working, they are being pulled into small groups to conduct mini-lessons on microscopes to see different organisms we have discussed in class. They have looked at plant stems, algae, fungi, animal cells, and parts of various insects.

Learn to understand student performance on ATLAS

Below is a chart summarizing student performance levels on ATLAS. It provides a description of each for your understanding.

The goal is Level 3! Your child is considered proficient (performing at grade level) when they earn a 3.

Level 2 means your child has the basic skills, but with a little support can get to grade level.

Level 4 is mastery of content meaning your child can teach someone else to do it.

Level 1 means your child needs extra support to be able to perform at grade level.

Scoring for interims is immediate. Parents should see scores in the ATLAS Family Portal just as you did for the ATLAS Spring 2024 scores.

Parents who do not have the information to access their child's scores in the ATLAS Family Portal must send an email to clair.mays@arkadelphiaschools.org. Please include your child's name and grade level in your message.

PFCU supporting children with Acorn Project

Patterson Federal Credit Union has started a charitable foundation,

The Acorn Project. The Acorn Project will provide food and other necessities to

children throughout Clark County and surrounding communities.

Patterson has a long history of working closely with school districts to support faculty,

staff, and students.

“The very first sponsorship we ever did was for a community

event to provide school supplies for students in need. Supporting the school districts

and all they do for our local children is a top priority for Patterson,” said Shawn

Cowart, Patterson’s President/CEO. “The Acorn Project will provide funding to feed

children in need over weekends and breaks from school. The backpack program, as it

is often called, has been our main philanthropy for nearly a decade. The Acorn Project

will provide a sustainable way to maintain that project. In addition to the backpack

program, we will seek new opportunities to support our local children.”

The Acorn Project will allow community partners to help provide our local children

with the food and necessities, they need to thrive. To get involved, businesses and

individuals can choose to make tax-deductible donations to the foundation. All money

donated to the foundation will be issued as grants to purchase food for students in

need. Patterson will also set up packing events to organize the food. Businesses and

community groups are welcome to participate in the Acorn Project by helping with

those events.

If you are interested in donating, hosting a packing night, or learning

more, please contact Nicole McGough at Patterson Credit Union.
