Goza PATHS Meeting

Parents and guardians of Goza students are invited to attend our PATHS meeting at 12 p.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2024. You are encouraged to bring your lunch or join us virtually by using the link: https://meet.google.com/anm-exop-qxd?hs=224

ATLAS WEEK

Testing can be a tense time for students and teachers. To lighten the tension in the atmosphere on our upcoming days of testing, we have a dress-up theme for each day. Tuesday, April 16, is "REaDy for REaDing". All students are encouraged to wear red. Wednesday, April 17, is "I'm a Math Marvel!" Students are encouraged to wear a t-shirt featuring their favorite superhero. And Thursday, April 18, is "Nerdy for Science!" Students are encouraged to dress up as nerds.

After testing, students will relax in the afternoon by participating in one of three activities -- kickball, board games, and dodgeball/volleyball. Parents, we need your help with the supervision of our students. A link for volunteers to sign up is provided on our Facebook Group page - Goza PATHS (Parents and Teachers Helping Students).

Algebra I Qualifying Exam

All 7th-grade students will take an Algebra I Qualifying Exam Friday, April 26. This test determines the placement of students in Algebra I for the 2024-25 school year. Qualifying students will receive an invitation from Ms. Miller. Invitations must be returned to our instructional facilitator by Friday, May 3, 2024.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Show your appreciation for your child's teachers during the week of May 4-8, 2024. Ms. Della Miller has a list of each of our teacher's favorite things. If you wish to get a copy of their list, please email gozapaths@arkadelphiaschools.org.

We all scream for ice cream!

I scream, you scream, we all scream, for the Science of Ice Cream!

That's right, this week the Goza Science teachers in 6th grade teamed up with Dr. Angela Douglass and her Science for Elementary/Middle School teachers at Ouachita Baptist University to explore this concept with students. Students worked together using a few ingredients of milk, sugar, vanilla extract, ice, and salt to create ice cream. Some students hypothesized that this could not be done, while others hypothesized that if enough heat could be removed from the liquid mixture, it might be possible. The science students soon discovered the secret to making ice cream is to lower the freezing point of ice so it can freeze the milk. So what is the special ingredient that can make this happen? SALT! Once heat is removed then VIOLA... Ice Cream! Who knew science could be so fun?? Well, we did, of course! And tasty!

7th Graders experience history at Little Rock museums

Goza’s 7th-grade students made a two-part field trip to the Arkansas Heritage Museum and the Old State House Museum in Little Rock February 28.

At the Arkansas Heritage Museum, students learned about the lives of pioneers in Arkansas, and participated in the Hidden Histories Tour. They sang songs that enslaved African Americans sang, and played musical instruments that they played. They also learned how antique printing presses were operated. Students assessed printed sales records of pre-Civil War era times, and then evaluated how advertisements for people and things were similar during times of slavery. They also listened to slave narratives and viewed the kinds of clothing that enslaved people would have worn.

At the Old State House Museum, students learned about early Native Americans in Arkansas, and were taught how to create replicas of clay vessels.
