Mrs. Cotton's fifth grade GT class participated in the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest. Students pretended they were newspaper reporters for the Philadelphia Times, and they were reporting on John Philip Sousa's first performance of "The Stars and Stripes Forever." Charlie Harrell placed first, and his essay will compete at the state level. Stephanie Burroughs placed second, and Ryker Hrabal placed third.
The three winners will be honored at a reception where the students will read their essays.
