Showing Kindness

Students, let’s help grow the Grinch’s heart by showing acts of kindness.  Students who show these acts will be entered into a drawing for a cool prize!  The winner will be announced at the end of each day.  Now let’s all go out and BE KIND!

DeGray Lake Corps of Engineers

On Wednesday December 13th, two rangers from the DeGray Lake Corps of Engineers came to speak with the 5th grade classes. The rangers spoke to each 5th grade classroom about the local food webs and ecosystems that can be found in our area. They also discussed animal safety, specifically about what to do if you see certain animals. The students enjoyed this opportunity, and they especially enjoyed getting to identify different animals based on their skulls and fur! This was such an exciting and interesting experience for our students! Thank you, Mrs. Cotton, for arranging for the rangers to come and speak to our students!

Counselor's Corner

We find ourselves smackdab in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Our students are excited to be with family during break. But let’s keep teaching them during the holidays! Maybe read a story together or have them add up the numbers on your grocery receipt. There is always something free around the house one can use as a teaching tool.

And don’t be afraid to dole out some responsibilities to your children. Whether it is making their bed, helping to prepare a meal, or setting the table, making them feel needed and responsible is so important to our third, fourth, and fifth graders at Peake Elementary. Experts tell us giving choices usually works best so you can let them choose: Would you rather put the plates and forks on the table or take out the trash? Empowering them to make choices goes a long way in allowing them to take responsibility for their actions.

Of course, the most important part of the break is to spend time as a family. Find things you can do as a family. It doesn’t have to be something expensive – just something you can all do together. So many of our students come talk to me in the office and almost every single one of them wishes for more quality time with family. Your time and love are the greatest gifts you give them while they are out of school.
