Students Have "Snow" Much Fun Returning From Winter Break

Students and staff enjoyed their first week back from winter break with a little fun playing in the snow. Students took an early recess to have fun and to make snow memories while the opportunity was available.

Just as a reminder as we enter the winter weather season, the provisions set forth in the Arkansas LEARNS Act no longer allow for AMI (Alternative Methods of Instruction) days. Any missed days of onsite instruction will be added to the end of the school year calendar.

Any school closures will be communicated through text, voice, and email alerts, and will also be published on the Arkadelphia Public School District social media accounts, app, website and Little Rock news outlets.

Perritt Primary Students are Safe, Kind, & Responsible

As part of Perritt's BX3 (Behavior EXtreme 3) initiative, Perritt introduced a positive award store to our primary students. Students earn positive points for demonstrating safe, kind and responsible behavior expectations that were establish school-wide and through the development of classroom social contracts.

Points earned an be redeemed at the positive store for small rewards or privileges. It's a great way to promote positive behavior, encourage kindness, and create a sense of community.

The introduction of our positive behavior store supports the promotion of a positive school environment. The students LOVE it!

Cone Grant Awarded to Student Council

Mrs. Ellison recently wrote and was awarded a Cone Grant to support the Perritt Early Act Student Council.  This grant will help our student council representatives serve as leaders not only in our school, but in our community as a whole.   This grant will specifically help Perritt students benefit from what leadership our Student Council will provide, as our members teach about our focus words of the year: responsibility, empathy, courage, integrity and perseverance.  A special thanks to the Cone Foundation for your support!

Our January Capturing Kids' Heart Word of the Month is "Respect".

Teaching respect is super important, and it helps create a positive and inclusive school environment. I start by explaining what respect means and why it's important. We follow up with fun activities and role-playing to help students understand and practice respect in their daily interactions. Perritt staff encourage them to think about how their actions and words can show respect towards others. Books and videos that highlight respect and its impact are also incorporated into our counseling class lessons.

The goal is to  help students develop a deeper understanding of respect and how to practice it in their daily lives.

Respect is a valuable life skill that will benefit them in all areas of their lives. It's all about setting a good example and fostering a culture of respect in the school community!

As we returned from the holiday break, we geared up to begin our winter test sessions starting with first grade. We are focusing on student growth scores in both reading and math. Our teachers conferenced with students to discuss fall scores and where students needed to grow for the winter session. Students were excited to celebrate how much they grew and will celebrate their growth with a GLOW party. All students who were on time for testing celebrated with an attenDANCE party! We can't wait to celebrate with kindergarten and second grade.
